Rs30m needed for new traffic signals
ISLAMABAD, Nov 16: The new traffic signal system proposed for the federal capital requires Rs30 million, a source in the Capital Development Authority (CDA) told Dawn on Sunday.
The source said the system was being introduced by the CDA with the help of traffic police.
He said the traffic police had sent a summary to the CDA regarding new system and installation of signals at the main chowks that were damaged on October 7 by a mob protesting against the killing of Maulana Azam Tariq.
The source said the CDA was reluctant to launch the project due to financial constraints.
Interior Minister Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat has also approved the project and directed the authority to initiate it as soon as possible, he added.
“Overhead traffic signals are functional at some places and most of the squares where traffic volume was quite high, traffic cops have been deployed,” an official of the traffic police said.
