TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 16: The price of bricks has twice been raised within a week from Rs1,400 per 1,000 bricks to Rs1,600.

Some builders told Dawn that kiln owners had raised at least Rs600 in bricks’ prices during the last four months, but the district administration did not take any action in this regard.

They said that bricks were available at Rs950 per 1,000 some four months back.

A spokesman of the Brick Kiln Owners Association claimed that the coal which was used as fuel in the kiln was available from Rs700 to Rs1,000 per ton.

But over a period of four months, he said its price had gradually been raised which had now gone up to Rs2,600 per ton, forcing the kiln owners to raise the brick rates.

He said the kiln owners using firewood as fuel were also facing the price hike of firewood. The firewood which was available a few weeks ago at Rs60 per maund was now being sold at Rs80 per maund, he added.
