Published November 17, 2003

KARACHI, Nov 16: Acting Chief Secretary Ghulam Sarwar Khero has directed the district coordination officer (DCO) and the city chief police officer (CCPO) to take measures for controlling the growing menace of beggary in the city.

According to an announcement here on Sunday, the acting chief secretary has also sought a report on this menace from these officers.

Mr Khero reminded the city district administration and police that an important meeting before the last Sindh cabinet meeting had directed for effective measures to control beggary.

He also asked the DCO and the CCPO to launch a campaign against the marketing and use of plastic bags.

Taking a serious notice of the shortage of X-ray films and medicines in some wards of the Civil Hospital, the acting chief secretary also sought a report from the Sindh health secretary about the availability of funds and expenses.

He also directed for taking measures for the provision of X-ray films and medicine in the hospital. — APP
