Speedy Lover’s Lady should hack the field again

By Ian Fyfe

KARACHI, Nov 15: Nihal Pervaiz’s game six-year-old chestnut mare Lover’s Lady, after her fluent victory over six furlongs two weeks ago, should hack the field again when the Winter Gymkhana Meeting gets under way on Sunday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Going over her best distance, Lover’s Lady should sprint home, chased all the way past the winning post by the two stable companions Visitor and Roberto Carlos Fan.

Seven events have been drawn up on the racing programme. The first five will be contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs with the last two going over six.

The first race is scheduled to begin at 1200 noon.

Another runner that should pass the victory post ahead of her rivals is the bay filly Love U Lady from Shah Mardan Shah II Pir Pagaro VII’s stable, contesting in the last event on the afternoon’s programme.

Finishing off the board in her last start after two fluent wins, Love U Lady, tracking well in the morning exercises is fancied although the much talked about Blue’s Traveller is also contesting in the race.

Blues Traveller a sibling from Shareek out of Persian Star owned by Ali Faisal Farooq and without a shadow of doubt this Pakistani bred bay colt is the champion Pakistani sprinter in the country.

The bay colt smashed the Pakistani record over six furlongs in Lahore, covering the distance in an amazing time of one minute 12 seconds leaving the rest of the field out in the cold, with still plenty to spare.

However the bay colt has not run on this track for several months, basking in his glory in Lahore. This point should make the difference in the race.

In the opener, Jango and Royal Promise, both owened by Syed Ali Gohar Shah, are on song to win this five furlong sprint, provided who the owner chooses to steal the limelight. The two should be followed home by Neeli Nighahain. Black Magic, a dark bay filly owned by M. Yaqoob Butt should win the second race hands down, leaving Bank Manager and Prism Of Life in her wake.

Edward Chou’s dark bay filly Trust Me, finishing second in her last two starts, should make amends and gallop to victory ahead of Ever Shine and Silver City in the next event. But then again, danger lurks in the form of the thoroughbred bay horse Knight Gambler, who could upset calculation if called upon to do so.

Although penalised to carry 9-4 on his back, the dark bay colt Fantastic Fighter, beaten hands down by Pasban last Sunday, will run a much better race with a capable lad astride, ending the pretensions of stable companions Sonia and Nawab in the following race. The latter last week was pulled hook, line and sinker by it’s jockey.

But if M. Yaqoob Butt’s three-year-old bay colt Snake River is called upon to do the trick, it will indeed be a different story to tell.

In the fifth event of the afternoon, Thousand Up is our fancy to land this five furlong sprint, although stable companion Pasban, displayed immense improvement while lowering the colours of Fantastic Fighter last week. Star Of The Day and Power Plus also good sprinters should battle it out for the second spot, with the fast improving Pasban joining the fray.
