SHIKARPUR, Nov 15: A police constable, a bandit and an account holder were killed and two others injured during a foiled bank robbery attempt here on Saturday.

The bandit armed with a Kalashnikov after killing police constable Ghulam Mustafa deputed to guard the Allied Bank branch, entered the bank while opening aerial firing, creating harassment among the bank staff and account holders.

The bandit ordered the staff to get out of the bank and on delay, he opened fire on them.

As a result, an account holder, Deewan Nanak Ram, 45, son of Fatan Mal, resident of Dadwai road, was killed, while the second officer of the bank, Javed Ahmed Shaikh and another account holder, Fakhruddin, 32, son of Karim Bux Mangi, resident of the Hathi Gate area, were seriously injured.

A police team rushed to the spot, cordoned off the area and fired tear gas shells into the bank. Meanwhile, the dacoit took Rs80,000 from the bank counter and tried to escape. When he came out of the bank, the police opened fire and killed him.

The unidentified body was sent to the Civil Hospital. Those injured were also brought to the hospital from where Shaikh was referred to a Sukkur hospital.
