25 Hesco defaulters arrested

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Nov 15: The Thul police arrested 25 villagers on Saturday on charges of non-payment of electricity dues on the complaint of the Hesco SDO.

The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company disconnected power supply to some 30 villages of the area.

The arrested villagers include Mohammad Moosa Banglani, Yousuf Arain, Wakeel Banglani, Yar Mohammad Kandrani, Faiz Mohammad Bijarani and Nazar Khan Khoso.

Earlier, the Thul police booked 80 persons on alleged charges of interference in government duty of Hesco officials after a scuffle between the villagers and a team of the Hesco officials.

The team went to Mirpur Buriro to dismount the transformer following non-payment of dues by the consumers.

The villagers resisted the move, resulting in injury to line superintendent Mohammad Hassan Bajkani.

Later, the SDO Thul lodged an FIR against 80 persons but no one was arrested.

Those booked include Mohammad Bajkani, Abdul Razzaq and Gul Hassan.

PICKET ATTACKED: About 15 outlaws launched an armed attack with rockets and hand grenades on a police picket in the jurisdiction of the Bahoo Khoso police station on Friday night.

Besides damaging a portion of the picket, stray rockets also landed in an agricultural land where cotton was stored as a result a huge stock of cotton was reduced to ashes.

Meanwhile, armed bandits hijacked a passenger bus from Bazaari More at the Sindh-Balochistan border and searched the vehicle for law enforcement personnel.

When they did not find any law enforcer, they let the bus go without looting anyone.

Outlaws of the area often hijack vehicles, including passenger transport, to hunt for security personnel.

STUDENTS DEMO: Students of Ghulam Mohammad Khan Mahar Medical College boycotted classes for the third consecutive day here on Friday and also staged a rally against non-availability of teaching staff and other facilities in the college.

The protesters, led by Naresh Kumar, Rabia Bilal and Sobia Naseem, told journalists that although the academic year had started since long, arrangements for a full-time principal and teaching staff were not made because of which the students’ studies were being affected adversely.

They remarked that surprisingly instead of specialists, general practitioners were imparting education in the college, moreover, insufficient number of books were available in the library.

They further said that more than three students were compelled to reside in each room of the hostel where the provision of water and electricity was quite insufficient, adding to the miseries of the students.

However, Civil Surgeon Dr Khalid Shaikh, who is also the acting principal of the college, claimed that expert doctors were imparting education to the students while efforts were under way to overcome the shortcomings.
