KARACHI: Special court on building violations proposed: Ibad seeks amendments


KARACHI, Nov 15: Sindh governor Dr. Ishratul Ibad has directed the officials to review setting up of a special court to check violation of construction laws.

Presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House, he called for effective implementation of rules and regulations to check encroachments, illegal constructions and to ensure right of way, and said a draft of amendments in the relevant laws be prepared and submitted to him within a week.

He said steps be also taken to check activities of those who take an undue advantage of the residential needs of the people.

He said that commercial and non-residential activities in residential areas be immediately stopped.

The meeting was convened to discuss the issues concerning the Karachi Building Control Authority, and the governor asked the relevant departments to work with mutual cooperation and coordination.

The meeting decided to assign the police stations of the defunct KMC and KDA to the KBCA.

It was also decided that the services of the anti-encroachment squad of the city government would also be offered to the KBCA.

The governor said the KBCA should perform effectively getting benefit of this additional support. He granted three months to the KBCA to show its effective performance.

The meeting, among others, was attended by the advisor on local government Waseem Akhtar, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, acting chief secretary Sindh Ghulam Sarwar Khero, principal secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, additional chief secretary Saleem Khan, DCO Mir Hussain Ali, DIG Operations Tariq Jameel, DIG Traffic Mohammad Yameen Khan, KBCA’s chief controller Brig. A. S. Nasir, secretary of law Ghulam Nabi Shah, additional advocate general Kazi Khalid Ali.

Meanwhile, the governor on Friday directed that matters relating to frozen plots under Land Ordinance-2002 be disposed of expeditiously in a transparent manner.

The progress made in this regard was reviewed at a meeting held under his chairmanship at the Governor House.

The governor stressed transparency in the whole process which, he said, would help solve problem in a minimum possible time. He was of the view that delay in settling such matters would only open up doors to corruption instead of justice.

In order to achieve the objectives of the Ordinance, relief should be provided to people and at the same time losses caused to be national exchequer be compensated.

The meeting was informed that in order to observe transparency, details regarding the prices fixed for frozen plots were being displayed on the website of the Sindh Information Department.

TRAFFIC: Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has called for initiating effective measures for better traffic arrangements.

He was talking to the DIG Traffic, Mohammad Yamin Khan, who called on him at Governor House on Friday.

The governor gave him necessary instructions with regard to a smooth flow of traffic in the city.

He issued specific directive to work out comprehensive arrangements for traffic control in and around busy roads during Eid shopping and asked the DIG to ensure proper implementation of the system. He impressed upon the DIG to ensure that during Ramazan, people should not face any problem which were caused by traffic mismanagement.

He emphasized the need for proper attention and time devotion to achieve the desired results.—PPI/APP
