President, PM review situation

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali met here on Friday to review the country’s political situation.

An official announcement said the prime minister and the president expressed their satisfaction over the reconstitution of the National Finance Commission, terming it a step in the right direction.

It was the second meeting between the prime minister and the president within the past four days in the backdrop of the opposition’s continuing threats of mass agitation.

Sources said the ongoing political developments in Sindh also came under discussion of the ruling duo on Friday as the two leaders were said to be getting increasingly worried about the provincial government’s ability to handle the deteriorating law and order situation and the widespread maladministration.

A senior government aide told Dawn that the federal government, embarrassed by what was happening in Sindh and blamed the situation on what it called an ‘intelligence lapse,’ decided to wait for “the right moment” before taking corrective measures.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Maher called on President Musharraf on Friday.
