ZTBL trounce HEC to remain on top of Pool C

LAHORE, Nov 14: Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) crushed Higher Education Commission (HEC) by an innings and 32 runs to maintain their top slot in Patron’s Trophy Inter- departmental qualifying round Pool “C” clash at LCCA Ground on Friday.

HEC had conceded a 211-run lead on first innings and were bundled out for 179 after resuming at 111 for six.

Right-arm paceman Muhammad Saddique, who took three for 23 in the first innings, grabbed four for 22 in the second innings to finish with the match figures of seven for 45.

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) have brightened their chances of making the main round when pacer Fahadullah Khan (4-26) and leg-spinner Muhammad Ali Zafar (4-47) bowled them to seven-wicket victory over Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

PAF, who had conceded a lead of 33 in the first innings, were shot out for 146 to get a target of 114 for win. KPT scored the required runs for the loss of three wickets in 18 overs.

Another pool “C” match between Railways and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) ended in draw making it difficult for the bankers advancing to the main round.

Railways who had gained 30 runs first innings lead were bowled out for 164 in the second innings after resuming at 10 without loss to set a winning target of 195.

NBP were 48 for four at the close of play.

In pool “D”, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) scored a 10 wickets win against Leo International at Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala.

HBL, who had gained 212-run first innings lead, bowled out Leo International for 244 in the second innings to get a winning target of 33 which they achieved without loss.

Sui Gas dethroned Allied Bank Limited from top position as their match ended in draw at Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot.

Both the teams went into the match with 30 points each. But Sui Gas earned a first innings lead of 87 runs for which they earned three points.

ABL, who were bowled out for 90 in the first innings, batted well in the second scoring a formidable total of 464 for nine thanks to an unbeaten century by Muhammad Salman (110), Khalid Latif (95), Ijaz Ahmed Junior (74), Farhan Adil (46) and Taimoor Khan (57).

KPT v PAF, Bagh-i-Jinnah, Lahore. KPT won by seven wickets.

PAF: 287 and 146 (Naseer-ud-Din 40; Adeel Malik 4-26, Fahad Khan 4-47, Muhammad Ali Zafar 2-19).

KPT: 320 and 118 for three (Maisam Hasnain 48, Ariz Kamal 46).

Railways v NBP, Lahore Country, Club, Muridke. Match draw.

RAILWAYS: 327 and 164 (Imran Bashir 50, Khalil Ahmad 28; Aleem Moosa 3-40, Muhammad Javed 3-19, Qaisar Abbas 2-22).

NBP: 297 and 48 for four (Imran Nazir 21).

Leo International v HBL, Jinnah Stadium, Gujranwala. HBL won by 10 wickets.

LEO: 127 and 244 (Hasnain Abbas 66, Fahad Liaqat 49; Kabir Khan 3-45, Shahid Nazir 4-66, Abdul Rehman 2-17).
