GUJRANWALA, Nov 14: A single bench of the Lahore High Court on Friday acquitted the four men, who were earlier handed down death sentence and Rs100,000 fine each by the Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 in a murder case.
According to the prosecution, police constable Muhammad Khan was killed by Muhammad Tasawur, Tanvir Ahmad, Basharat Ali and Qamar Shahzad in an encounter in Mandi Bahauddin two years ago.
Police arrested the four men and submitted chargesheet of the case with the ATC No 1. The court sentenced them to death and Rs100,000 fine each on March 11 this year after which the convicts appealed to the higher authorities for mercy.
Meanwhile, the ATC No 2 continued hearing the church blast case and recorded statement of the constables, who got conducted post-mortem of the deceased.
The judge, Rafiuddin, summoned for the next hearing on Nov 19 the doctors, who conducted an autopsy of the deceased.
Four Christians were killed at Chianwali, Daska, in a church blast on the eve of Christmas, the prosecution said.
It is reported that two of the accused had already been bailed out by the LHC.
