Blasphemy case retrial in jail ordered

ISLAMABAD, Nov 14: The district and sessions judge, Chaudhry Asad Raza, has ordered that retrial of a death convict in a blasphemy case should be conducted in Adiala jail.

The convict, Dr Mohammad Yunis Shaikh, had moved an application that he was facing death threats, therefore, his retrial should be held inside the jail.

Dr Yunous was awarded death sentence by a local court in a blasphemy case under section 295-C. November 20 has been fixed the next date of hearing.

Dr Younus Sheikh was arrested on October 4, 2000, on charges of delivering some comments during a lecture at the Homeopathic College in Islamabad.

The judge of Anti-Terrorism Court, Safdar Malik, had awarded death penalty to him. The accused has filed an appeal against his conviction in the Lahore High Court, which referred the case back to the court of district and sessions judge for retrial.
