Security beefed up in Islamabad

RAWALPINDI, Nov 14: Frontier Constabulary (FC) have been deployed at various sensitive places, including mosques and imambargahs in Islamabad to avert any untoward incident, a source said.

Earlier, security cameras had already been installed at different points in the Capital.

As part of the security steps, the police patrolling has been increased and the FC personnel have also been directed to start patrolling, the source said.

“At the moment, there is no threat of any terrorist activity, however, we have taken the precaution measures,” a police official said.

Meanwhile, the security at foreign missions and embassies have already been beefed up.

A source said Iranian diplomats in Islamabad had shown their security concerns —- especially after the assassination of Maulana Azam Tariq. He said the diplomats were assured by the police officials, during a meeting in the embassy, that the security agencies were on high alert and there was nothing to be worried.

He added: “Some days back, the Iranian ambassador had received a threat call, therefore, the government had ordered to tighten security for the Iranian diplomats, the source said.

Meanwhile, the newly-appointed IGP Fayyaz Toru, in a simple ceremony, assumed charge on Friday.

The IGP will visit the office of Special Branch on Saturday where the AIG Special Branch, Nasir Nawaz, will brief him about the working of the branch.

A Reporter FROM ISLAMABAD ADDS: A man was killed while three others sustained injuries in different incidents here on Friday, the police said.

The deceased identified as Khawaja Sufi Muhammad Sadiq, 71, was shot at when he was going upstairs at his house in sector G-9/4. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds, the police said.

The police said an unknown person opened fire at Sadiq when he was going upstairs at his house. The man fired two shots at him and escaped.

In another incident, three persons were injured in exchange of firing at Karal in the jurisdiction of Sihala police station.
