Khokhar meets UN officials

NEW YORK Nov 14: Foreign Secretary Riaz Khokhar met with top officials of the United Nations and envoys from UN member states on Thursday and discussed situation in South Asia vis-a-vis India-Pakistan relations, Afghanistan and Pakistan’s role in the campaign against terrorism.

Mr Khokhar attended a luncheon hosted by Pakistan’s UN Ambassador Munir Akram for the members of the UN Security Council in which the major focus was on the situation in Afghanistan, said a press release.

He also presented an analysis of the current situation in Afghanistan with particular reference to the fragile security environment. He elaborated the proposals outlined by President Pervez Musharraf to establish security in various parts of Afghanistan which were currently under the control of warlords or were marked by a vacuum of authority.
