KARACHI: City govt vows to eliminate beggary

KARACHI, Nov 14: The city government has set up camps and displayed banners in various areas of Karachi to discourage professional beggars and guide people to avoid granting their hard-earned money to such elements.

Some of these camps are established at Bohri Bazaar, Saddar, Gulf Tower, Clifton, Jamia Cloth Market, Main Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Chowrangi, Liaquatabad Super Market, Water Pump, Anarkali Bazaar, Haidery Market, Samama Market, University Road.

The officers of the social welfare departments, representatives of NGOs, officials of civil defence and volunteers have been assigned to create awareness among citizens against the menace.

The city government has also set up a committee for awarding contracts of canteens and bookshops of educational institutions. Canteens and bookshops of schools and colleges have been occupied by some specific persons for years.—PPI
