KARACHI: Muttahida activist killed; five die in accidents

KARACHI, Nov 14: Five persons, including four boys, died in separate accidents in different parts of the city on Friday.

A young woman, who was going with her husband, on motorcycle near old Sabzimandi on University Road within the limits of PIB Colony police station died when a speeding school van knocked her down.

The couple was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Uzma was pronounced dead while Amir was provided treatment. Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver of the van.

In Saeedabad’s sector 8-D, Nasir, 14, was hit by Illyas coach near Usman Ghani mosque. Police said that the injured was taken to a nearby private hospital from where he was referred to the Civil Hospital. However, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival at Civil Hospital.

Police said that the errant driver of the coach escaped from the spot following the accident.

A speeding bus of route (4-L) knocked down Mohammad Abid, 13, near its terminus in Sohrab goth. Police said that the boy died on the spot. His body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination. The errant bus driver escaped from the spot following the accident.

An Afghan boy, Taj Mohammad, died when he was hit by a speeding minibus of route (A-3) near Super Highway. Police said that the boy was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The minibus driver escaped from the spot following the accident, police added.

Another boy died in a road accident on Nishtar Road within the limits of Jamshed Quarters police station.

Police said that Zeeshan, 13, was crossing the road when a bus (JA-1833) knocked him down. The injured boy was taken to the Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

KILLED: A female activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement was killed by unknown persons in her house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Friday.

Police said that Yasmeen, 23, wife of Amir, was found murdered in her apartment in Saima Shopping Centre, Block-18 of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, on Friday morning. The victim’s husband, Obaidullah Bulaidi, also a Muttahida activist had gone to Larkana.

Police said that unknown persons stabbed Yasmeen to death and fled from the apartment. The victim used to work at the party’s headquarters ‘90’ in Azizabad. Obaidullah is the Muttahida’s sector incharge of Ratodera, police added.

Another woman, Azmat, was stabbed to death by her husband Mohammad Ishaq in his house in Sector 8-E of Korangi Industrial Area. Following the murder, Ishaq surrendered himself before the police with the weapon. Police shifted the body to JPMC for post- mortem examination.

CG’s CAR SNATCHED: The car of the honorary counsel general of Ireland, who is also a former selector of Pakistan’s cricket team, Haseeb Ahsan was taken away at gunpoint from Bahadurabad, late Thursday night.

Police said that three armed men asked the driver at gunpoint near Amber Cinema to keep driving the vehicle for two hours. Finally, they dropped the driver and escaped in the car (AAE- 061).

It was his fifth car, which he lost to armed bandits, Mr Ahsan told Dawn.
