Anti-Semitism row in Germany

Published November 12, 2003

BERLIN, Nov 11: Germany’s opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) has launched a procedure to remove a party lawmaker caught up in a row over anti-Semitism, an official said.

The Hesse branch of the CDU, deputy Martin Hohmann’s home state, and the party faction in the Bundestag lower house of parliament have begun parallel actions to have him removed, senior CDU official Roland Koch said.

In a speech to his constituents on October 3, Hohmann said that Jews could be seen as a “race of perpetrators” for alleged crimes against civilians during the Russian revolution of 1917.—AFP
