Impressive triumphs for NBP and KPT

LAHORE, Nov 10: National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) registered impressive victories in the  Patron’s Trophy Inter-departmental cricket tournament qualifying round on Monday.

A nine-wicket match-haul by Zahid Saeed powered NBP to earn an innings and 78 runs win against Pakistan Air Force (PAF) at  LCCA Ground.. PAF, after being follow-on were bundled out for 166 in their second innings after resuming at 96 for five in the morning.

Zahid, who had taken four wickets for 53 in the first innings, captured five for 61 in the second innings to finish with match haul of nine wickets for 114.

PAF’s pace bowler Amjad Ali, who had dislocated  his  right shoulder after bowling 10 overs in the first innings had been ruled out for the next match of the competition.

Five wickets by leg-spinner Ali Zafar for 61 enabled KPT crush Railways by eight wickets at Railways Stadium.

Railways after being follow-on were all out for 226 in the second innings after resuming at 138 for six, setting an  easy  25-run target for KPT who scored 25 for two.

At Lahore Country Club, Muridke, defiant knocks by Shahid Yousaf (94), Abdul Razzaq (80) and Mansoor Amjad (72 not out) helped  Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) to force a draw game against Service Industries.

NBP v PAF, LCCA Ground

NBP: 444 for seven wickets

PAF: 200 and 166 ((Aamir Manzoor 45, Kashif  Hayat  43; Zahid Saeed 5-61, Muhammad Sami 2-28) - NBP won by an innings and 78 runs.

Railways v KPT, Railways Stadium.

KPT: 390 for six wickets and 25 for two in 8.2 overs.

RAILWAYS: 188 and 226 (Adnan Butt 69, Shakeel Ahmed 47, Khalid Bashir 30; Ali Zafar 5-61, Haris Ayaz 2-23) - KPT won by eight wickets

ZTBL v Service Industries, Lahore Country Club, Muridke.

ZTBL: 146 and 367 for eight wickets (Shahid Yousaf 94, Abdur Razzaq 80, Mansoor Amjad 72, Javed Hayat 42, Rao Iftikhar 23; Asim Butt 3-114, Jamshed Ahmed 5-116).

SERVICE: 246 - Match drawn
