NEW DELHI, Nov 10: India’s Arjun Atwal claimed the Masters title at Delhi Golf Club to become the first player to win US$1m in career earnings on the Asian PGA Tour.
Atwal carded a final-round one-under-par 71 to win by one stroke from compatriot Jyoti Randhawa, Mexico’s Pablo Del Olmo, and American Gary Rusnak. Birdies at 14 and 17 saw Atwal charge to victory and finish the tournament on seven-under-par 281.
Atwal had started the day three strokes behind leader Indian Digvijay Singh, who struggled home with a 78. The victory marked Atwal’s sixth success on the Asian PGA Tour and the US48,450 winners’ cheque took his total earnings on the circuit to $1.02m.
The Indian star, who has played on the Asian PGA Tour since its inception in 1995 and won the same event in 2000, now has a commanding lead on this year’s order of merit list with earnings of US$282,193.
