KARACHI, Nov 10: Fazle Akber and Najaf Shah fired PIA to their fourth win when they inflicted an innings and 51 runs defeat on Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) in their Patrons Cricket Trophy qualifying rounds at National Stadium on Monday.
Fazle grabbed fours wickets for 63 runs in 22.2 overs and Najaf snapped up four wickets for 87 runs in 28 overs as KESC were bowled out for 246 in their second innings.
The three-day match ended 23 minutes before tea as KESC needing 295 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
KESC were bundled out for 131 in their first outing. PIA piled up 428 for six wickets in 83 overs of their first innings.
Skipper Arif Mahmood played a fighting knock but was unlucky to miss his hundred by six runs when he was caught by Bazid Khan off Najaf for 94. Arif batted for 171 minute and his sparking knock of 127 balls was spiced with 18 boundaries.
Arif and Faraz Patel added 138 runs for the fourth wicket in 171 minutes. Faraz’s 63 included eight hits to the boundary.
KESC were one batsman short as Khurram Manzoor could not bat in KESC second innings. Pakistan under-19 batsman Khurram was hit on the back of head off rising ball from Fazle on Sunday.
According to reports Khurram had been advised three-week rest by the doctors.
PIA collected another nine points for victory to raise their tally to 33 points with four consecutive wins in pool “A”.
PIA will face Dewan Farooqi Motors Ltd in their next game at Asghar Ali Shah Stadium starting from Wednesday.

Pak PWD and Defence Housing Authority (DHA) pool “A” match ended in a tame draw at Quaid-i-Azam Park Ground, Steel Township on Monday.
Waseem Naeem starred in his team’s draw by slamming another entertaining 80 with six sizzling boundaries as DHA were all out for 237 in their second innings. Waseem hit a superb 135 in first innings.
DHA made 350 for nine in 83 overs of the first innings. PWD which made 278 in their first outing and set impossible 310 to win 14 overs. They made 45 without loss. Faisal Athar struck five fours and a six in his 36.
DHA secured three points for the first innings lead.
