KARACHI: Stipend for doctors demanded

Published November 11, 2003

KARACHI, Nov 10: Various organizations of doctors have expressed their concern over delay in payment of stipend to about 300 FCPS trainee doctors of Sindh despite orders by the governor and later a notification in this regard by the provincial secretary for health.

In a joint statement, President Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Dr Haseeb Alam, PMA General Secretary Dr Habib Soomro, PMA Executive Member Dr Tipu Sultan, President Society of Surgeons Pakistan Prof Manzar Saleem, President Jinnah Hospital Doctors Association Dr Tariq Rafi, Postgraduate Doctors Forum leaders Dr Riaz Leghari and Dr Ejaz Shaikh and office-bearers of Karachi Medico Organization and Postgraduate Trainee Doctors Action Committee have appealed to the governor and adviser on health for their interference for payment of stipend to trainee doctors.

They pointed out that the governor had ordered in May 2003 and later the secretary health had issued a notification to pay Rs6,210 per month as stipend to trainee doctor, but despite passage of five months, the doctors have been not given the same.

They said 300 posts of House Officers were lying vacant at Civil Hospital, but no progress had been made in this regard.—PPI
