HYDERABAD (India), Nov 10: Fifteen people were killed on Monday when a ferry capsized in Andhra Pradesh, police said.
There were 50 people on board the ferry, which consisted of two boats tied together, when it sank on the Godavari river, close to Ramachandrapuram village, 500 kilometres east of the state capital, Hyderabad.
“We have retrieved 15 bodies. The other 35 managed to swim to safety,” a police official said.
“The pilot of the ferry probably lost control as the boats had been overloaded beyond their capacity,” he said, adding the ferry had been carrying labourers across the river. —AFP
