Hafeez bowls team to glory

KARACHI, Nov 9: A splendid spell of bowling by Hafeez, who finished off with figures of five wickets for eight runs, helped Mohammad Hussain CC beat A.O.CC by a comfortable margin of five wickets in the 18th Karachi Gymkhana Habib Bank A.G. Zurich Ramazan cricket festival played in Sunday at the Karachi Gymkhana ground.

Winning the toss and batting first, A.O.CC, happily placed at 77 for the loss of one wicket and one stage of the game, collapsed for 120 runs with Hafeez five wickets for eight runs and Asim Akhter two for 24 running amock with the cricket ball.

Mohammad Raheel top scored with 32 runs with Saeed Sheikh contributing (25), Nadeem Akhtar (21) and Owais Rehmani (20).

Mohammad Hussain CC reached the victory target in 18.5 overs while scoring 122 for the loss of five wickets. Azhar Gul (38), Mothasim (22 not out), Azim Tariq (22) and Jamil Nasir (20) were among the runs. Saeed Sheikh three for 22 and Amin Baig two for 19, shared the wickets that fell for the losers.

In another match played in the afternoon, Tapal CC overcame Al Noor Gymkhana also by five wickets.

Mansoor scoring an unbeaten knock of 42 and Fahim Ahmed (34), Al Noor Gymkhana could only manage 147 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 25 overs, with Salman Yaseen four for 21, Kamran Omar two for 24 and Tariq Hussain two for 35, rewarded after bowling a steady line and length.

Tapal at their turn at the wicket, achieved victory with only four deliveries remaining, reaching the winning target of 148 runs losing only five wickets in the process. Suleman Huda (65) led the victory charge with Zahid Ghori (35 n.o.) and Adnan Baig (23) also among the runs.
