KARACHI: Release of Asif and Hashmi demanded

KARACHI, Nov 9: The Sindh Council of All Pakistan Minorities‘ Alliance, which met here on Sunday under a former MPA Saleem Khurshed, demanded immediate release of Asif Ali Zardari and Makhdoom Javaid Hashmi, and opposed construction of the Kalabagh dam and the Greater Thal Canal.

In a resolution, the alliance termed the continuous detention of Mr Asif Zardari a worst kind of violation of human rights. The meeting also expressed grave concern on ever the increasing poverty, unemployment and the resultant suicides in the country. As regards the Kalabagh dam and the Thal canal, the alliance supported the views of the opposition.

The alliance demanded that the name of its central chairman, Shahbaz Bhatti, be excluded from the Exit Control List.

Addressing the meeting, Mr Saleem Khurshed vowed to struggle along with the PPP and other democratic forces for the supremacy of Parliament and restoration of democracy.

Meanwhile, the PPP Karachi has, in a statement, appealed to trade unions, students bodies, lawyers, human rights organisations and women organizations to participate in the protest to be staged on Monday.— PPI
