KARACHI: Calls for NA dissolution not justified, says PML leader

KARACHI, Nov 9: The Secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League Organizing Committee, Shaikh Sirajuddin, has said there was no justification of pondering over dissolution of the National Assembly as Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali maintained a record of good performance and enjoyed sufficient majority in the parliament.
The hue and cry being raised by certain quarters in this regard makes no difference, he added.
Shaikh Siraj was talking to a group of newsmen at an Iftar party hosted by Sabir Rajput of PML Sindh’s Labour Wing here on Saturday.
In reply to a question, he insisted that the PML-Q’s Sindh Committee, headed by Nisar Memon, had ceased to exist with effect from Nov 18.
The committee, he alleged, which was supposed to look into the unwanted groupings within the party cadre, had deviated from its assigned task and indulged in organizational matters. He claimed that Mr Memon was no more associated with the PML, though he might have been working for any of its factions. Replying to another question, he said that Arbab Rahim was very much with the mainstream PML and would soon be resuming handling of party affairs as usual after restraining himself from an attitude that had been resented by certain party colleagues.
Sindh Minister for Population Welfare Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh told newsmen that the move to unify the PML had drawn very positive response from Sindh. “I observed much enthusiasm among PML activists and supporters over the initiative during my recent visit to Hyderabad and Badin along with local leaders representing all the PML factions,” he said.
Mr Shaikh said that the aim of his visit to the interior of Sindh was to mobilize party workers and impress upon them not to confine their political activities to Autak (drawing room and go to show so as to make the party work a real movement.
Mr Shaikh, who is also a member of the PML’s Central Organization Committee, said that under the leadership of Pir Saheb Pagara and Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain, all the leaders and activists were striving hard to make the PML a deep-rooted party committed to deliver the goods to the masses and redress their grievances.
In reply to a question, the minister termed the Sindh Assembly’s performance over the past one year ‘satisfactory’ and said that not only the problems being faced by people were highlighted on the floor of the House but also resolutions were adopted and sent to the concerned authorities to effectively convey the common man’s feelings.
The minister advised the opposition benches to cooperate with the coalition instead of sticking to its negative attitude. The assembly’s performance would have been even better, had they adopted a positive attitude, he remarked.
Mr Imtiaz Shaikh, addressing the guests at the Iftar party, claimed that people had rejected the protests and demonstrations organized by the opposition because its one-year performance demonstrated nothing but slogans, boycotts and demonstrations. Describing the opposition’s attitude as ‘undemocratic’ he said that people had not sent them to the elected Houses to indulge in undemocratic activities.
In spite of the opposition’s aggressive mood, he said, the government continued its efforts to serve the people without any discrimination and in a serious and sober manner.
Regarding the PML unification and merger of Sindh Democratic Alliance with the unified PML, he said the development would have a positive impact on the politics in the country as the future of Pakistan and democracy was linked with the PML. He said that there was a complete understanding among all the coalition components in Sindh. He said law and order, poverty and unemployment were top priorities of the government.
