Babar, Naved boost PTCL

RAWALPINDI, Nov 8: Centuries by Babar Naeem and Naved Latif fired PTCL to a massive 407 for eight before they declared their innings closed on the first day of the Patron’s Trophy qualifying round match against PTV on Saturday.

Babar who smashed an impressive 170 hit 25 fours and a six in his innings and Naved stroked exactly 100 with 12 boundaries and two sixes.

The duo’s heroics helped their side finish the day at the KRL Stadium in a position of complete dominance as their bowlers then reduced PTV to 33 for four by the close, Riaz Afridi snaring two scalps.

In PTCL’s innings, left-arm spinner Suleman Khan claimed four wickets for 90 runs while Rashid Amin chipped in with two for 33.

At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Wapda rocked Pool B leaders ARL dismissing them for just 70 runs in 25.5 overs. Rana Naveedul Hasan was the chief wrecker returning figures of five for 30 followed by Sarfraz Ahmed who took three for 16. Faisal Irfan had to be content with two for 21.

By stumps, Wapda were 198 for three, having gained a 128-run first innings lead. Asif Hussain had settled down well in scoring an unbeaten 67 while Adil Nisar contributed 59 runs.

Elsewhere, POF posted 248 in their match against Army, after they had chosen to bat first at the Army Cricket Ground.

Ahsan Masud took the batting honours striking a fine 75 and Imran Ali did well too scoring 72 runs. Akhlaq Ahmed was still at the crease on 46.

The wickets went to Zubair Wattoo who captured four for 63 and Azhar Bhatti and Muhammad Bilal, both of whom shared six scalps.

Wapda 198-3 in 53 overs (Asif Hussain 67 not out, Adil Nisar 59, Hassan Adnan 39).

At Army Cricket Ground, Rawalpindi:

POF 248 in 79.2 overs (Ahsan Masud 75, Imran Ali 72, Akhlaq Ahmed 46 not out; Zubair Wattoo 4-63, Azhar Bhatti 3-26, Muhammad Bilal 3-36) v Army.
