KARACHI, Nov 8: Judge Arshad Noor Khan of Anti-Terrorism Court-III on Saturday adjourned the hearing in a kidnapping for ransom case against three accused as the defence side completed final arguments.
The court fixed Nov 10 for final arguments by the special public prosecutor.
Shahzad Ali, Abdul Jabbar and Ahmed Hussain alias Immi are being tried for kidnapping Mohammad Bilal Shahzad, son of a businessman, on June 6 from the DHA.
Defence counsel argued that accused were falsely implicated in kidnapping case and prayed to the court to release them in the said case.
They contended that the identification parade conducted by the police was not in accordance with the law. They submitted that the ransom money shown to have been recovered from their clients by the police actually does not belong to them.
According to prosecution, accused kidnapped Shahzad, 18, near restaurant in Boating Basin and later they released him after getting Rs0.45 million as ransom. Six other accused Arshad alias Pupoo, Rustum, Zeeshan, Shahzad, Haji Ameen and Abu Sufyan were declared absconders in said case.
Special Pubic Prosecutor Naimat Ali Randhawa represented the State.
HEARING ADJOURNED: Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch of the Anti-Terrorism Court on Saturday adjourned the hearing of a sectarian killing case against activists of the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi after recording statement of an eye-witness, Syed Ali Asar Zaidi.
Chief of banned organization Mohammad Ajmal alias Akram Lahori, Ataullah and Mohammad Azam are being tried on charge of killing Agha Abbas, owner of Agha Juice Centre in Rizvia Society area Karachi, and injuring his employee Gul Zaman on May 25, 2002.
Eyewitness Syed Ali Asar Zaidi stated that the police recorded his statement after the incident and he identified the accused before the magistrate in the identification parade on July 4, 2002.
The trial is being conducted in juvenile jail Karachi for security reasons, and Nov 11 has been fixed as the next date of hearing when statement of the remaining prosecution witnesses would be recorded.
