Eight-match ban for spitting

NYON (Switzerland), Nov 7: Sinisa Mihajlovic of Lazio was suspended for eight matches by UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee on Friday after being sent off against Chelsea in Tuesday’s Champions League match in Rome.

He was also fined 20,000 Swiss francs ($14,560) for what UEFA described as his “particularly unsporting behaviour” and also because of his poor previous disciplinary record.

The severe punishment was imposed after he spat at and kicked Chelsea players during his side’s 4-0 home defeat and for “improper conduct” towards a UEFA official after being sent off for two bookable offences.

The decision means he is unlikely to play again for Lazio in any more European matches this season. The club have until midnight on Monday to appeal the decision.—Reuters
