PESHAWAR, Nov 7: The NWFP government has decided to reactivate the Paraplegic Centre at the Hayatabad township, said an official handout here on Thursday.
This was decided in a meeting chaired by NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Thursday. The meeting was informed that being the only institute, the Paraplegic Centre for patients of paralysis needed to be made functional within shortest possible time.
A committee under the chairmanship of secretary health Dr Ihsanul Haq was constituted to look into the issue in detail and submit proposals.
The meeting was also attended by Health Minister Inayatullah Khan, the additional secretary to the governor, Sikandar Qayyum, and chairman NWFP chapter of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society Prof Dr Tariq Nishtar.
Established in 1994, the centre is presently being run by the Pakistan Red Crescent Society.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor urged for more efforts to obtain resources from the donor organizations.
The health minister informed the meeting that the provincial government had already offered a grant of Rs10 million annually for a period of five-year for the centre. However, he said efforts would be made to extend maximum assistance to materialize the suggestions of the proposed committee.
