PESHAWAR, Nov 7: The Jamaat-i-Islami on Friday staged protest rallies in the major cities of the NWFP and the adjacent tribal regions to condemn the military operation in the tribal areas.

In Peshawar the JI organized a protest rally from the Mohabat Khan mosque after the Friday prayers.

The rally after passing through different roads assembled at the Qissakhwani bazaar where JI leaders addressed the gathering.

The protesters chanted slogans against the federal government, President Gen Pervez Musharraf and NWFP Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah.

MOHMAND AGENCY: JI workers staged a protest demonstration in Mian Mandi, the trade centre of the Mohmand tribal agency, after the Friday prayers.

Addressing the demonstration JI leaders criticized the government for harassing tribesmen of the South Waziristan Agency.

BAJAUR AGENCY: Tribesmen of the Bajaur Agency staged a big protest demonstration in Khar, the headquarters of the tribal agency to condemn the military operation.

According to the sources, more than 3,000 tribesmen participated in the demonstration. They gathered after the Friday prayers.

Addressing the demonstration, the leaders criticized the federal government for nabbing innocent people. They said: “The tribesmen are religious people and have no links with Al Qaeda or Taliban”.

BANNU: Addressing a protest rally, JI Senator Prof Mohammad Ibrahim said that the military operation was a violation of commitment made by rulers with the tribesmen.

The JI organized protest demonstrations also in Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swat, Lower Dir, Upper Dir, Malakand Agency, Kohat, Hangu, Timergarah, Haripur, Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan and Bara.
