PML-N men clash with police

Published November 7, 2003

LAHORE, Nov 6: PML-N activists clashed with police when the latter tried to stop them from staging a sit-in outside the Lahore Press Club on Thursday against the arrest of party president Javed Hashmi.

However, no serious injury was reported in the incident.

Traffic remained suspended for around half an hour during the brawl as the demonstrators, a few dozen in number, snatched back some of the women activists taken into custody by the police in plainclothes.

The protesters led by Naushad Hameed, Haji Hanif and Aaisha were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans like “go Musharraf go”, “no LFO no” and “release Javed Hashmi”.

The demonstration began at 1am and continued for over an hour as the participants refused to disperse on a request by the police.

They warned the government if Hashmi was not released, there was no guarantee that their next demonstration would be peaceful.
