SUKKUR, Nov 6: The cotton growers of Ghotki district continued their protest for the 15th consecutive day on Wednesday by holding a demonstration against the officials of the agriculture department and dealers for supplying substandard pesticides.

The growers of Ubauro marched through different localities and finally stopped on reaching the National Highway. They were led by MPA Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, Mian Mithoo, Abdul Fateh Samejo and Mandhal Shar.

They raised slogans against the officials of the agriculture department and dealers for supplying substandard pesticides.

Speaking on the occasion, Jam Mehtab, Mian Mithoo, Abdul Fateh and Mandhal Shar said that they had conducted a survey throughout the district.

They said that the survey had revealed that cotton crops had been destroyed because pesticides used against pest attack were ineffective.

They warned that if action against officials of the agriculture department and dealers of pesticides was not taken soon, then they would stop paying agricultural taxes.

KILLED: A primary school teacher, Gulan Sarohi, was killed while his cousin, Rahem Ali Sarohi, was injured when their motorcycle was hit by a tractor near Rohri on Wednesday.

Rahem was admitted to the Civil Hospital Sukkur.

No case had been registered till the filing of this report.
