Lawyers’ protest

SKARDU, Nov 6: The Baltistan Bar Council took out a protest procession against what it said the delay in provision of basic rights to the people of the Northern Areas and in solution to the problems faced by the judiciary.

The office-bearers and members of the council walked from the district Bar office to Hameed Garh Chowk, where the procession turned into a rally.

Council president Wazir Shakeel Ahmed and secretary-general Ghulam Nabi said the other day that on May 28, 1999, the Supreme Court ordered the government to take steps for providing basic rights to the countrymen, but despite a lapse of four years, the government was using delaying tactics in this regard.—Correspondent
