KARACHI: Attempts to divide legal fraternity criticized
By Our Staff Reporter
KARACHI, Nov 6: The Sindh Bar Council, the Sindh High Court Bar Association and the Karachi Bar Association warned the government on Thursday against attempts to divide the legal fraternity.
Speaking at a press conference to express their solidarity with Lahore High Court Bar Association president Hafiz Abdur Rehman Ansari and the lawyers whose chambers were demolished, they said the action was a sequel to the election of the anti-government candidates to the various offices of the Supreme Court Bar Association. The attempts to divide the Lahore lawyers and oust Hafiz Ansari from his office, however, failed and the LHCBA members remained united behind their elected representatives.
They said the lawyers would not be cowed down by pressure tactics and would continue their struggle against the LFO and for the rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution.
The press conference was addressed by SBC vice-chairman Yasin Azad and members Mustafa Lakhani, M. Sadiq Hidayatullah, Muhammad Aqil and M. Ismail Memon; SHCBA president Muneer A. Malik; and KBA president Mohammad Ali Abbasi and secretary Saathi Ishaq.
