KARACHI, Nov 6: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has directed the departments concerned to expedite the implementation of a plan to beautify Sohrab Goth, the city’s entry point.
The governor gave this directive while presiding over a meeting at the Governor’s House.
Taking notice of the slow pace of work, he stressed the need for a better coordination between various civic agencies for the removal of hurdles to upgrade Sohrab Goth.
Dr Ibad is the third governor since 1999 who has issued directives about beautification of Sohrab Goth.
Earlier, Mohammadmian Soomro and Moeenuddin Haider had also issued similar instructions and had promised to turn the 20-acre open space at the Sohrab Goth into a sprawling park.
For this purpose, encroachments were removed, but soon afterwards the locality was turned into an inter-city bus terminus.
Dr Ishratul Ibad has asked the DCO to apprise him of the progress so far made, along with complete details about the plan within 15 days.
The governor said that due care be taken in leasing out land at Superhighway near the city entry point and all rules and regulations be followed in a transparent manner.
“There is a need to develop greenery all-around on open spaces to beautify the atmosphere by removing traffic bottlenecks at Sohrab Goth”, the governor added.
He has asked the departments concerned to plan double carriageways and underground subways or overhead bridges for pedestrians in the adjacent Gulistan-i-Hijri scheme. He also said that better lighting arrangements and sanitary conditions also be ensured.
Present at the meeting were City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, principal secretary Akhtar Zamin, DCO Mir Hussain Ali, City Police chief Asad Ashraf Malik, officials of National Highway Authority and the Frontier Works Organisation.
