LAHORE, Nov 5: Devastating bowling by paceman Imran Sabir, who captured seven wickets for 72 and scintillating century by opener Imran Abbas (176) powered Zarai Tarqatiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) to overwhelm Pakistan Air Force (PAF) by an innings and 89 runs and earn second win in the Patron’s Trophy qualifying round match on Wednesday.
Imran Abbas faced 205 balls and struck 18 fours as ZTBL, who resumed their first innings at 242 for four, declared at 347 for seven in 70 overs for an overall lead of 275 on first innings in reply to PAF’s 72 in the first innings.
When PAF batted second time Imran Sabir was virtually unplayable and the airmen were skittled out for 207 in their second innings.
Tailenders Naseer-ud-Din (85, 112 balls, 13 fours) and Shakeel Sharif (40, 66 balls) saved PAF from being bowled out for much less total.
Karachi Port Trust (KPT) lost the initiative of first innings lead of 78 runs against Higher Education Commission (HEC) losing four second innings wickets 16.
KPT bundled out HEC for 185 in the first innings, after they resumed at one for no loss. HEC’s pacemen Salman Rahat and Zaheer Abbas shared the wickets in KPT’s second innings.
Tailender Shoaib Maqsood made a defiant 101-ball 79 and Atif Ijaz 49 not out gave HEC total some respectability.
Propelled by two centuries Ali Hussain (103 not out) and Sufyan Munir (100 not out), Sui Gas registered their third win of the competition, beating Pakistan Education Board (PEB) by an innings and 11 runs. Sufyan hit 12 boundaries and three sixes while Ali hammered 12 fours.. PEB, in the second innings were dismissed for 180 in 50.5 overs with Shahid Pervaiz (50) being the main scorer.
For Sui Gas, Sajid Ali (4-35) and Imran Tahir (3-31), and Waseem Khan (3-69) were the main wicket takers.
Kabir Khan and Abdul Rehman took four wickets as Habib Bank Limited forced SAGA to follow-on.
Defending a formidable first innings total of 432, HBL’s pacer got SAGA out for 233 in 58.3 overs with Shaiman Anwar (72) and Ashraf Ali (50 not out) were two major scorers.
The match between Service and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) was heading towards a draw.
The bankers, however, earned the first innings lead of 25 by scoring 255 against Service’s 230.
Kamran Akmal (87, 109 balls) and Hanif-ur-Rehman (61, 128 balls) did the bulk of scoring.
Service in their second innings were 21 for one.
Allied Bank Limited (ABL) were in sight of victory against Leo International.
Manzoor Akhtar (94, 79 balls), Usman Tariq (61, 88 balls) and Wajahatullah Wasti (65, 69 balls) helped ABL to seize a first innings lead of 167 having amassed 339
in reply to Leo’s first innings total of 172.
By the close of play, Leo were 97 for six wickets—still 70 runs behind to avert an innings defeat.
