RAWALPINDI, Nov 5: KRL humiliated Army on Wednesday, scoring an innings and 106-run victory, their bowlers finishing them off inside two days in this Patron’s Trophy qualifier at the Army Cricket Ground.

Yasir Arafat, who had a haul of five wickets in the first innings, snared another three in the second to return match figures of eight for 43 runs as Army were sent packing for a paltry 63 in 22 overs.

Yasir was lent adequate support by Jaffer Nazir who claimed three wickets for 19 runs and Ali Naqvi conceding just three runs for his two scalps.

KRL had declared their first innings closed at the overnight score of 252 for two.

At the KRL Cricket Stadium, ARL, spearheaded by Asim Butt’s unbeaten 78, took a 151-run first innings lead against POF.

Starting the second day at the overnight score of 81-4, ARL batsmen did well in posting 290, a total in which Alamgir Khan’s contribution was 42 runs and 40 by Sohail Tanveer.

Although fast bowler Rashid Latif picked up five wickets for POF, he proved expensive, conceding 100 runs. Nadeem Ahmed, another pacer was far too economical in comparison giving away only 17 runs for his three wickets.

By the close of play, POF had put on 93 on the board for the loss of three wickets off 29 overs. Saad Altaf, Rizwan Akbar and Sohail Tanveer took a wicket each.

In another match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, PTCL conceded a 52-run first innings lead to Wapda, despite a brisk 69 by Pakistan captain Inzamamul Haq.

Inzamam struck six boundaries and a six in his innings before being run out while Naved Latif was also ruthless with the bat and cracked eight fours and a six in his knock of 47.

Naved and Inzamam were the only batsmen to make substantial contributions to PTCL’s total of 223. Off spinner Aqeel Ahmed with three for 42 and pacer Sarfraz Ahmed who took two for 49 were the successful bowlers.

When play ended for the day, Wapda had scored four runs for the loss of Atiqur Rehman, who was trapped leg before by Muhammad Khalil.
