Two officials put on notice

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Nov 5: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has issued show cause notices to the provincial secretary and deputy secretary of the home department for not appearing before the court in an application filed by a prisoner who is in custody for the last one year for his alleged involvement in a subversive act.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani on Tuesday directed the home secretary to present the related documents in next hearing.

The applicant Abdul Khaliq submitted that he was arrested by the crimes branch police one year back on the charges of terrorist activities, but the law enforcement agency had failed to prove the allegations.

He prayed that the court should take notice of his detention as the provincial chief secretary had taken no notice of his application requesting the government to release him.

APPEAL DISMISSED: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court has rejected the appeal filed by a former provincial minister challenging the verdict awarded by the Accountability Court Quetta sentencing him to imprisonment and fine in a corruption reference.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed and Justice Akhtar Zaman Malghani here on Wednesday dismissed the appeal of ex-minister Malik Gul Zaman Kasi praying to set aside the judgment of the trial court awarding him one year’s imprisonment and fine of rupees 300,000.

The trial court had convicted him on the charges of a corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau.
