Asif seeks release on parole

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 5: Imprisoned PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari has filed an application with the home secretary, Punjab, for release on parole for seven days, from November 10, to attend the first death anniversary of his mother in Nawabshah.

According to the media cell of the party, in the application moved on Wednesday, Mr Zardari maintained that his father was abroad for medical treatment and there was no other elder male member of his family who could perform the ceremony.

He said two of his nieces had got married in August and September, but he could not attend the events.

His sister Faryal Talpur had filed a petition with the Sindh High Court for his release on parole but the Sindh government said that as Mr Zardari was confined in the Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, within the jurisdiction of the government of Punjab; therefore, the Sindh home secretary had no jurisdiction to release him on parole.
