KARACHI: Five die in accidents

KARACHI, Nov 5: Five people died in separate road accidents in the city on Wednesday.

Police said that three persons Deedar Ali, 33, Bashir, 22 and Bachal, 49, were travelling in a Suzuki pickup (KH-4760) when a water tanker coming from the opposite side rammed into it on National Highway in the limits of Steel Town police station early Wednesday morning.

The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination, police said.

Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver of the water tanker Abdul Mannan and impounded the vehicle.

All the victims were employees of a poultry farm and were going to Thatta to purchase feed for fish.

In Korangi, a teenager died in a road traffic accident on Wednesday.

Police said that two brothers Akhtar Zaman, 18, and Mohammad Zaman, 20, were going on a motorcycle when they were hit by a speeding minibus near Bilal Chowrangi, Korangi. Akthar Zaman died on the spot while his brother Mohammad Zaman was injured.

The errant minibus driver escaped from the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

A bus carrying pilgrims to Shah Noorani over turned near Hub on Tuesday night. A passenger, Mohammad Younis, died on the spot while seven others were injured. The injured were taken to Civil Hospital Karachi for treatment.
