PESHAWAR, Nov 5: Governor Iftikhar Hussain Shah has directed the establishment of an organized Scout Association in the educational institutions of the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

Presiding over a high-level meeting on Wednesday, the governor also directed to convene a meeting of the provincial council of the association during the current month.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Secretary Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, Schools and Literacy Secretary Amjad Shahid Afridi.

Mr Shah, who is also holding the office of chief scout of the NWFP, said that the scouts should be organized in a way to enable them play a positive role in the country.

He said that the activities of the association should be coordinated and further streamlined on strong footings.

Similarly, he said, the council of the association should meet twice a year.

The governor said that camps and other activities of the association in various districts and areas of the province should be organized to further project and promote its performance and function.

He agreed to a suggestion to grant honoraria to the scout leaders and desired that concrete proposals should be worked out for a presentation at the proper level.

Mr Afridi, while giving a presentation, said the association with almost 140,000 members throughout the province was regularly holding its training camps at Takkia near Abbottabad.
