KARACHI, Nov 5: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has vehemently rejected allegations of corruption against Senator Ahmad Ali but sources said he had to resign due to complaints of interference by two public sector organizations headed by men in uniform and also because of the resentment expressed by a section of party cadre.

Parliamentary leader of the MQM in the National Assembly Dr Farooq Sattar confirmed Mr Ahmad Ali’s resignation but said there was no truth in corruption charges against him.

Some quarters are exploiting the situation for their own ulterior motives, he said.

In a statement, a spokesman for the MQM said “in a movement responsibilities keep on changing for advancing its objectives. Senator Ahmad Ali has also resigned on the directives of the leadership and there is no truth in reports of corruption charges against him.”

Meanwhile, sources said that Mr Ahmad Ali was not responsive to the demands of a section of the party cadre and the leadership, and provided no protection to them. There were also reports that he was not usually available for party meetings, eversince he became minister.
