KARACHI: Faulty signal lights add to woes of masses
KARACHI, Nov 5: Non-functioning signal lights at important and busy thoroughfares at Bohri Bazaar, Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan and Abdullah Haroon roads, and Regal intersections at peak hours is exposing people to immense inconvenience.
Public mainly comprising commuters, generally in fasting conditions, and also those visiting the surrounding shopping centres find themselves stuck to a quagmire at the hands of impatient drivers and helpless policemen. This causes emotional torment to the public while their unchecked exposure to toxic fumes emitted by buses is further noticed to severely affect the tolerance level among the commuters. Besides, drivers, conductors and traffic cops lead to undesirable situations as brawl and exchange of abusive language, which is an additional trauma for many.
The scenario is almost equally pathetic at Purani Sabzimandi, Liaquatabad, Sharah-i-Quaideen and the link road between North Nazimabad and New Karachi where much awaited expansion work has been launched, but perhaps at wrong time.
Long queues and erratic drivers are a common nuisance, making it necessary for the government to complete the work under the project during nights without hampering the traffic flow. —APP
