KARACHI: Water shortage in North Karachi, Orangi

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Nov 5: While an acute water shortage persists in North Karachi, water from leaking pipelines has started overflowing in the locality.

Residents of sectors 11C-1, 11C-2 and 11C-3 said they have been experiencing an acute water shortage since long, and water coming out from leaking pipelines often remains stagnant on roads and streets.

They said although an acute water shortage had been persisting in their localities since long, the KWSB’s officials concerned are not taking measures to restore normal supply despite complaints lodged to them on several occasions.

Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from different parts of Orangi.

According to Orangi UC-9’s councillor, Aftab Ahmed, various localities of the UC-9 are either without water or getting scant supply since first Ramazan despite restoration of supply from the Hub dam source.

“It is since restoration of supply from the Hub source that the KWSB’s concerned officials have not yet been able to chalk out water supply schedule for such localities and as such nobody knows at what time they will be supplied water,” he added.

According to him, the hard-hit areas include Pakistan Bazaar, Nishan-i-Haider Chowk, Islam Chowk, Baloch Colony, Pakistan Bazaar, Warsia Colony, Mustafa Colony, Aziz Nagar and other localities adjoining Sharea Orangi.

Complaints of water shortage have also been received from Clifton blocks 2, 4 and 5, Gulshan-i-Iqbal blocks 4-A and 10, Mehmoodabad, Manzoor Colony and parts of PECHS blocks 2 and 6.
