Shoaib goals prove decisive

LAHORE, Nov 4: Diamond Paints beat Olympia 5-4, thanks to three goals by Mir Shoaib Ahmad, including the match-winner, in the opening match of Seasons Canola polo tournament at LPC Ground on Tuesday.

Diamond came out with a 2-1 lead in the first chukker when Hassan Raza Gillani and Shoaib scored a goal each. Hassan crowned a field attempt while Shoaib converted a 60 yards penalty hit. Aurangzeb Monnoo scored a goal for Olympia.

Olympia restored the parity (2-2) in the second chukker with Abid Nawaz scoring two goals.

Diamond again surged ahead 4-2 in the third chukker when Maula Baksh converted a 40 yards penalty hit and Shoaib added his second goal.

Olympia staged a comeback in the fourth chukker and had again levelled the score 4-4 when Abid struck his second goal followed by Talha Saeed.

Shoaib came to rescue Diamond and scored his third goal to seal the fate of the match.

Earlier, three matches of two chukkers each were played between Adisseo, Agri Mall and Wall Oil. Adisseo won both its matches matches.

Adisseo with a half goal handicap defeated Agri Mall Blues 4 1/2—3. For the winners, Taimur Malik and Shaukat Malik scored two goals, each.

Malik Asif Yar Tiwana (2) Piracha scored for the losers.

Adisseo beat Wall Oil 4- 3 1/2 with a hat trick by Taimur Malik in the first chukker. Shaukat Malik scored the other goal.

Raja Amir scored all the three goals for Wall Oil, who had half goal on the handicap.

Wall Oil defeated Agri Mall Blues 3 1/2-2 in the last two chukkers match.

For the winners, Abdul Hayee scored two goals while Raja Amir added a goal. Half goal was their handicap.

For Agri, Capt. Piracha and Malik Asif Tiwana scored a goal each.
