RAWALPINDI, Nov 4: Yasir Arafat ripped Army’s batting apart on Tuesday, taking five wickets for 30 runs, as his side KRL finished the opening day of their Patron’s Trophy qualifier in a happy position.
Army, who were asked to bat first, could not cope with Yasir’s fine bowling as they fell for only 83 runs in just over 28 overs. KRL then zoomed past that meagre total to be a cool 252 for two at the close, a lead of 169 runs.
Muhammad Ramzan stood strong at the crease to score an unbeaten 105 while Ali Naqvi stroked a fluent 71 and Saeed Anwar Jnr put on 64 to lead the run-riot.
Elsewhere, POF couldn’t do much either and barely managed to score 139 at the KRL Cricket Stadium against ARL.
Only Imran Ali’s personal score of 41 looked respectable followed by Mr Extras total of 32. The destroyer was right arm fast bowler Rizwan Akbar who picked up five for 58.
But after their bowlers had done their bit, the ARL batsmen let the side down to be 81 for four, Nadeem Ahmed capturing three wickets.
At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, PTCL fast bowler Muhammad Khalil and Muhammad Hussain restricted Wapda to 275 on the first day of their game.
Khalil returned figures of five for 86 and Hussain had four for 84 as the duo kept taking wickets at regular intervals.
Hassan Adnan was Wapda’s chief scorer with 73, an innings featuring 10 hits to the ropes and Tariq Aziz who hit as many boundaries in scoring 63.
