Iftikhar, Siddique put ZTBL on top

By Our Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, Nov 4: Deadly bowling by medium pacers Rao Iftikhar and Muhammad Siddique, who shared all the ten wickets and an unbeaten century by Imran Abbas, helped Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) to take a massive 170-run lead on first innings against Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in Patron’s Trophy on Tuesday.

Iftikhar grabbed six wickets for 36 while Siddique took four for 20 to rout PAF for 72.

When ZTBL batted Imran Abbas hit 113, cracking 14 boundaries in 156-ball knock. Imran was involved in 103-run third wicket stand with Atif Ashraf (86, 11 fours, 116 balls) to put their team in a strong position.

A combination of leg and off spin by Sajid Aziz and Shoaib Maqsood of Higher Education Commission bowled out Karachi Port Trust for 263 in the first innings.

Leg-spinner Sajid snared five batsmen for 52. Off-spinner Shoaib ended with figures of three wickets for 83 runs.

A second wicket partnership between Maisam Hasnain (81, nine fours, 135 balls) and Shadab Kabir (40, five fours) of 84 runs was the backbone of KPT’s respectable total.

A hurricane 191 by Younis Khan and sparkling 103 by Hasan Raza powered Habib Bank Limited (HBL) to amass 426 for five wickets in first innings against SAGA.

Younis struck 32 boundaries in his 217-ball knock. Hasan slammed 13 boundaries and two sixes off only 90 balls. Younis and Hasan plundered 207 for the third wicket. Skipper Saleem Elahi chipped in with a useful 80 off 135 balls.

Sui Gas were in control against Pakistan Education Board (PEB) by taking a 107-run lead on first innings with nine wickets in hand.

Five wickets burst by paceman Muhammad Irshad for 47 enabled Sui Gas to bundle out PEB for 127 in the first innings in only 34.3 overs.

Openers Muhammad Hafeez produced run-a-ball 92 with 16 boundaries and Ali Hussain unbeaten 81 off 123 balls to help Sui Gas finish the day at 234 for one in 43 overs.
