KARACHI, Nov 4: Sri Lanka produced a better all-round show to qualify for the final of Under-19 Asia Cup beating Pakistan by 14 runs at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
The Islanders will meet India in the final to be played at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday.
Pakistan were bowled out for 234 in 48.2 overs in reply to Sri Lankan total of 248 for five wicket in 50 overs.
Riaz Afridi blasted a whirlwind 62 off mere 35 balls with five sixes and three boundaries but his outstanding efforts went in vain.
Pakistan at one stage was reduced to 151 for seven but Riaz Afridi and Tariq Mahmood put their team back in the contention by putting 79 runs for the eighth wicket.
Riaz in a bid to repeat a six off Suraj Muhammad was caught by at mid-off by Damindu after a fighting knock.
Sri Lanka ended their league outing with 15 points and remained the only unbeaten team in the comeptition.
Pakistan made a solid start as openers Sohail Ahmed and Jehangir Mirza put on 59 runs in 11 overs. Sohail went after making 30 with two boundaries and a six.
Jehangir for the first time showed his batting touch. But when he departed after making 65 off 77 balls with five hits the ropes and two over it, Pakistan suffered a mini-collapse as they lost three wickets in four over for nine runs to slump to 134 for six wickets in 33 overs.
Off-spinner Ganganath Ratanayake was Sri Lanka best bowler with three wickets for 34 runs in ten overs.
Earlier sent to bat first, Sri Lanka recovered from a shaky 29 for three wickets to post a healthy 248 for five wickets due to a late blitz by Kushal Silva and skipper Farviz Maharoof. They score as many as 26 runs in the last two overs.
Right handed Kushal Silva, named Man of the Match, smashed an attractive 88 spiced with ten sizzling boundaries after facing 117 balls. Maharoof was undefeated 57 off 56 balls with four hits to the boundary and a six.
Paceman Riaz Afridi made early inroads into the Lankan batting by removing opener Damindu Kularatne for four in his first over and Ganganath Ratanayake for 14. Fellow pacer Ali Imran Pasha got rid of Upul Tharanga for four runs.
Opener Harsha Vithana steadied the situation with a fine batting display. Vithana chalked out his third half century before was trapped lbw by slow left arm spinner Sohail Ahmed.
Vithana made 51 off 91 balls which contained four boundaries in his 153 minutes stay at the crease.
Silva and Maharoof were associated in a superb 103 runs fifth wicket stand that eventually proved match-winning stand.
Riaz Afridi emerged as the best of Pakistan bowlers with three wickets for 51 runs in nine overs.
