KARACHI: Payment of power dues discussed

KARACHI, Nov 3: Sindh Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkal Kazi chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to discuss the matters regarding payment of dues to HESCO and KESC.

Secretary Finance Malik Israr told the meeting that Rs216 million were paid in connection with the dues of town municipal administrations. Secretary Irrigation & Power Bashir Dahar said that as Rs43 million of the total payment to Hesco were on credit there were some difficulties. He said that late surcharge should not be mentioned in billing because the provincial government had already submitted more amount than it owed.

It was informed that in all towns of Karachi wrong billing was reported. The case of Korangi Town was mentioned where due to wrong digits the amount of thousands was converted into lacs.

The meeting underlined the need for reconciliation with regard to dues of WAPDA, HESCO and KESC and payment by the concerned provincial government departments. It was decided that HESCO should be urged to take action against those officials involved in power disconnection despite submission of dues.

The chief secretary asked the department of irrigation and power to present report of payments of dues and the copies of cheques through which the payments were made so that the same could be communicated to WAPDA authorities.

Additional Chief Secretary (Local Government) Muhammad Saleem informed the meeting that a meeting was held with city government authorities and KESC, which was also attended by City Nazim. He said that reconciliation was on according to the decision of that meeting. Moreover, he said, efforts were also being made for reconciliation of TMAs.—PPI
