BOAO, Nov 2: President General Pervez Musharraf on Sunday held bilateral meetings with leaders on the sidelines of the second annual conference of the Boao Forum for Asia.

Gen Musharraf and Singapore Prime Minister Goh Cho Tong discussed issues of bilateral interest at a meeting. They expressed the desire to enhance bilateral economic cooperation.

The president briefed the Singaporean leader about Pakistan’s economic policies which, he said, had started yielding the dividends. He informed Mr Tong about the investment opportunities and steps taken for evolving a conducive and business-friendly environment in the country. The premier appreciated the economic policies.

World Economic Forum president Klaus Schwab called on Gen Musharraf in the afternoon and exchanged views on matters relating to Pakistan’s economy and the world economic scenario at large.

Mr Schwab praised the economic policies that had led to Pakistan’s economic revival. “We have been impressed by your views and vision of Enlightened Moderation,” he said, referring to the president’s speech at the OIC meeting held in Malaysia recently.

The WEF chief invited the president to address politicians, business leaders and media tycoons of the world who are due to assemble in January at the WEF moot in Davos, Switzerland.

President Musharraf said he looked forward to presenting Pakistan’s views before the Forum on important regional, international and global issues.

Bob Hawke, the former Australian prime minister, called on the president and admired Pakistan’s role in the international fight against terrorism.

“I congratulated the president on adopting a very good stand on the issue (of terrorism),” he said after the meeting.

“We have had a very useful exchange of views,” Mr Hawke said.—APP
