UN team in Kabul to review security

KABUL, Nov 2: A UN Security Council delegation arrived here on Sunday for a week-long review of the country’s security, humanitarian conditions and human rights.

The delegation, a group of ambassadors and other high-ranking diplomats from all 15 UNSC member states, intends to let Afghans know that the reconstruction of their country is continuing, said the envoys’ leader, German Ambassador Gunter Pleuger.

The delegation is scheduled to meet senior Afghan officials including President Hamid Karzai, representatives of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC), the NATO-led commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), UN senior officials, as well as ambassadors of Iran and Pakistan.—dpa
